Raw and Fat Burning Summer Foods

 

Bar B Q Quickies for Raw Plus Fun!
Enjoy summer and the tastes of the season without worry.  Lose weight, feel great and have fun!

Use any fresh seasonal vegetable on the bbq with yummy sauces and enjoy summer without denying yourself the tastes of summer. Warm anywhere from slightly to a bit longer, but remove the veg as quickly as you can to preserve the raw goodness.

~ Grill a whole onion in foil, with a hint of olive oil added. Stick a clove of garlic into the center of the onion before you wrap it and serve on a bed of lettuce, with grilled lean chicken breasts or just by itself with a cold beverage.

~ Corn on the bbq is a common enough practice here in North America. This year keep it healthy and eliminate the butter.  Use olive oil and a sprinkle of lemon pepper.  Delicious and festive, served with a plate of fresh summer greens and vinaigrette.

~ Try sliced apple, raisin and asparagus, wrapped and brought to warm on the grill.  Serve over brown rice drizzle with a light raspberry sauce.  If you like cheese, a bit of feta works beautifully.

~ If you love fish, you'll love fish on a grill, packaged with asparagus, or eggplant slices or try a bed of raw spinach for your fish.  Drizzle a full bodied red wine over the fish and eat while steamy. Make sure you have a portion of spinach larger than the portion of fish.  This percentage works best when combining proteins and veggies.  

~ Use herbs and spices instead of sugary sauces like bbq and glazes.  Use olive oil as a base and experiment with the herbs of the season...mints (lovely with fish, raw or cooked) rosemary (amazing on veggies) and sage or thyme. Get artistic and enjoy your food.  Mrs. Dash herb combos are a great start.  Don't forget the lemon juice...always a staple on a healthy summer table.

~ Your favorite smoothies can be used as sauces for grilled veggies.  Use kabob sticks and skewer peppers, onion pieces, tomato, and all manner of vegetables.  Grill until hot and drizzle banana kale or pineapple banana or any other smoothie mix over them.  Serve with a glass of the smoothie on the side. Use fruit on the skewer for sweeter treats, leaving them chilled with the smoothie mixture over them.

~ The more fresh fruits and veggies you can eat, the better you're going to feel.  Especially eating the foods in season.  Those are the most nutritious.  But having fun with grilling in the summer time is one of the benefits of doing Raw Plus.  It means you can enjoy some of your favorite summer foods with just a few changes, while continuing to lose weight and feel great!
